Cookie Usage

A cookie is a small text file that is stored on your hard drive for record-keeping purposes (log file data and password). We use session cookies to make it easier for you to navigate our Website, for example when you are prompted to log-in. Cookies are used to avoid you having to enter your login information many times in one day.

During online surveys, we may also collect information through the use of cookies. These are used as sparingly as possible and only for quality control, validation and most of all, to avoid sending you reminders for any survey you have already participated in.

The final type of cookie we collect is the DoubleClick cookie. Google's use of the DoubleClick cookie enables it and its partners to serve ads to users based on their visits to their own site as well other sites on the Internet. While Hiving might not advertise on their own site, the information from this cookie is used to get a better insight into the type of internet users visiting our site. This cookie collects information about your prior visits to our site as well as other sites across the Internet. This cookie is shared with Google and its partners for advertising purposes. However, only Hiving has access to the information in this cookie, which is purely statistical in nature and is in no way personally identifiable to you. Neither Hiving, Google nor any other site will link this information to any account you might have with them.

It is possible for you to reject cookies or to prevent their use by changing the browser settings on your computer. How you do this will depend on the browser you are using. We recommend that you visit the relevant company's website to find out more. However, keep in mind, if you do decline the download or use of cookies, you may not be allowed to participate in some surveys or access to some aspects of our website.

Note:
  • A session cookie expires when you close your browser. A persistent cookie remains on your hard drive for an extended period of time. You can remove persistent cookies by following directions provided in your web browser's help file. These cookies do not collect personally identifiable or confidential information.
  • Hiving automatically receives and records information from your computer software and hardware, including your IP address, browser type or operating system. We do this only to avoid you filling out the same survey several times.
  • We may provide links to a variety of other sites and we may display advertisements from third parties on our Website. Hiving does not control the dissemination of third party cookies. You should check the third party websites for more information about these. We are not responsible for the privacy policies of these websites and third party advertisers.

So, except with your explicit permission, we will never reveal who you are to our clients.
  • Provide a snapshot of our South Africa Consumer Panel’s profile attributes (based on the information submitted by our members in the registration form) to market research companies, potential partners or advertisers. All information shared with a third party is purely statistical.
