What is the Hiving Panel?
Hiving is a free-to-join paid online consumer panel. By becoming an active member of our consumer community, you’ll have the opportunity to give your opinions by answering our online surveys In return, your contributions are rewarded with Hiving Points that you can exchange for cash.
Surveys are about current and future consumption trends in Canada. Your opinions will provide important feedback for producers and suppliers and will have an impact on the products and services they put on the shelves.
Does it cost to join the Hiving Panel?
No, it doesn’t cost you a penny. Our online consumer panel is 100% free. Brands and market research companies pay us to carry out surveys and we in turn pay you for filling them out.
What are the Hiving Panel membership requirements?
In order to guarantee an accurate and well-rounded representation of national consumers, Hiving is looking for a variety of profiles.
There are only 3 simple requirements to joining our online consumer community.
You must:
- be over 15
- live in Canada
- accept our Terms and Conditions
Who will have access to my personal information?
We keep all of your data private and secure.
The personal information you provide when you register is strictly used to give you surveys that match your profile. Your survey answers will only be used for statistical purposes and thus will be passed on to our clients in an anonymous way.
Please be reassured that we will never use, share or sell your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes.
All of your data is safely stored and well protected. We at Hiving take data protection very seriously.
Why do I need to fill in the registration form?
We need to collect information about you in order to place you in the most relevent consumer panel.
For example, we won’t send you an online survey about diapers if you don’t have babies at home. All of the basic information we need is included in the registration form, however we encourage you to fill in your Thematic Profile to ensure an accurate match.
The more complete your profile is the more surveys we can send you.

How do I access my Hiving account?
Log in to your Member's Area by entering your email or username and password in the box provided on the Home page of our Website.
How do I change my email address?
To change your email address log into your account , click on the tab with your name on the top right of the page, select “Account Settings" from the dropdown menu that appears and finally find where it says “Email” and click “Edit” just across from it. Replace your current email address with the new one, input your password and be sure to click “Save Changes”.
I can't log in with my email address anymore!
Please check that the email address you have typed in is the same as the one you used to register with.
If you have changed your email address recently, you’ll only be able to log in with your new email address. However, if you have tried to change your email address but didn't confirm it, you must use your old email address to log in. We would have sent you a confirmation email when you signed up for our service, with a confirmation link you need to click.If the problem still persists, please contact us . Don't forget to indicate your username and registered email address so we can find you in our database.
How can I change my password?
To change your password log in to your account, click on the tab with your name on the top right of the page, select “Account Settings" from the dropdown menu that appears and finally find where it says “New Password” and click “Edit” just across from it. You will need to input your old password once and then the new one twice. Don't forget to click “Save Changes”, you should get a little notification at the top of the page to confirm the change.
Why do I have to update my profile?
When big events such as a wedding, a birth or the purchase of a new car, happen in your life , it’s important to add them to your profile. The more information you can put into your profile the more likely you are to qualify for more paid surveys. So, updating your profile means more survey opportunities for you.
How do I Unsubscribe?
You can unsubscribe completely and delete your Hiving account. However, if you wish, you can also keep your membership but opt-out of receiving new Surveys*.
This second option has many benefits:
- If you have used the Tell A Friend Programme, you will continue to accumulate convertible Points, but only if your account is still open. You can continue to invite new Friends to Hiving and thus earn more Points, even if you don't participate in any new Surveys.
- You will, very occasionally, receive news from Hiving by email. We will let you know about new services we are launching as well as improvements we are making to existing features. If you like these developments and still have your Hiving account, you can opt-in whenever you want.
*To stop receiving our Surveys or to delete your Account, just go to your "Account Settings", click on the "Services" tab and choose “Option 2” or "Option 3".
How can I check my account balance?
Please, log in to your account. To see a quick summary of your points please find your Hiving Wallet on the left toolbar, where you can see both Credited and Pending Points. Click on either title for more details and to convert your points to cash.
How does the Hiving Reward System work?
In return for fully completing one of our surveys, you will earn what we call “Hiving Points”. These Points can be exchanged later on for cash.
The amount of points received for a survey varies but will be specified in the survey invitation sent to you by email.
Hiving Points will be added to your account as Pending at first but you will able to cash them in once they have been Credited. Points are credited after we have collected all of the surveys for the project in question.
The length of a project depends on how long it takes to fill the survey quota and how fast your fellow panelists send in their replies. This process could take up to 30 days.
Also, we won’t reward Members who don’t participate seriously in surveys, who have given inconsistent answers or who’ve tried to answer the same survey multiple times.

The Hiving Points system is susceptible to change
as we are continuously improving our service and how we reward our panelists. But don't worry, we will inform you of any changes in advance.
You must collect at least 4 000 Hiving points in order to redeem them
and conversions are only possible in stages of 4 000 points.
Hiving Points Conversion Rate
4 000 Points = $5
8 000 Points = $10
12 000 points = $15
I have completely filled out a survey but I’m still waiting for my Points.
Your Hiving points will be Credited only when we have collected the number of completed surveys we need to fill the project quota.
This can take up to 30 days. In the meantime, you can check your Pending Points Balance (ie. the points you have earned but not yet received) in your Hiving Wallet. (see “How can I check my account balance”, above)
Having said that, it’s still possible that you have participated in a survey, but that you have not yet fully completed it.
You will be rewarded only when you have completely finished the survey .
If you have received a message saying that you don't qualify for the survey or a message saying that we have enough respondents for this survey, you will not be rewarded for it.
If you have fully completed a survey and you still haven’t have been rewarded for it 30 days after your participation, don’t hesitate to

Don’t forget to mention the topic of the survey and the date on which participated.
When can I redeem my Points for cash?
You must collect a minimum of 4,000 Hiving Points before being able to convert them. Read the above question “How does the Hiving reward system work?“ to understand exactly how our rewards system works and when you can cash in your Hiving Points.
How can I redeem my Points?
Log in to your account, find your Hiving Wallet in the left toolbar and click on “Credited Points”. If you have 4000 points or more and want to convert them to cash, click on the money icon just below your balance.
What is the "Tell a Friend Program"?
The Tell a Friend Program allows you to gain some extra points by getting your friends involved in Hiving's Canadian consumer community. Each time a member that you invited to join us completes one of our surveys, you receive a percentage of the Points allocated to that survey,without reducing the amount of Points they receive themselves. There is no limit on how many people you can invite, so the more the merrier!
To invite your friends to join, all you have to do is go to the Tell a Friend Page and input your friends email address to send them an invite. Or if you want to reach a larger audience, post the invitation-link to your social media to invite all of your friends and followers.
I recommended a friend, why haven't I received any Points?
In order to receive points for your recommendation, your friend must fully complete a survey.
Remind your friend to make sure that they filled out the survey all the way to the last page and submitted it.
It is also possible that your friend just isn't filling out any surveys, feel free to give them some encouragement!
How often will I be asked to answer surveys?
It depends on your profile. However it is generally between 1 and 4 times per month. We try not to give out too many surveys per month in order to guarantee the quality of the answers.
Do I have to answer all Hiving surveys?
No, you are not obliged to answer all of the surveys we send you. But of course, the more surveys you fill in the more points you will earn!
How long does it take to complete an online survey?
Surveys vary in length. In general a survey takes between 5 and 20 minutes to complete. We will always include a time estimate in the survey description.
How many Hiving Points can I earn by completing a survey?
It depends on the length of the survey. The length of the survey will always be written in the survey description. If you still aren't sure how many points you earned for a survey, check your Hiving Wallet Balance in your Member's Area after you are done. (see “How can I check my account balance”)
When will I get my Hiving Points?
Go to the Pending Points Balance section of your Hiving Wallet to see how many points you have earned. However these points won't be convertible until they appear in your Credited Points. Points are Credited after we have collected the answers from all of the other panelists and have closed the project. This can take up to 30 days and depends on the survey’s length and the projects complexity.
Why do I never or rarely receive surveys?
To start, please make sure that all of the themes in your member profile ( i.e. Health, Beauty, Automotive, Hi-Tech etc.) are completed.
Members with fully completed profiles get priority and thus get first grabs at the limited Panelist spots. As they say, the early bird gets the worm!
However, if you have completed your membership profile and still don't see any surveys in your News Feed, please

I can’t open the survey… what can I do?
It is more than likely that you have had a technical computer issue in this case.
Please try to refresh your browser page and maybe even try to open the survey on a different web browser.

What can I do if a technical error occurs during an online survey?
If, after trying your own computer troubleshooting techniques, you still have any problems during the survey process, please contact us . Briefly explain the problem and include the link in your message . We will work on the problem immediately and get back to you as quickly as possible.
Where can I find the paid online surveys?
You will be notified, via your News Feed, everytime a new survey is available for you to complete. Otherwise, you will find the surveys in your Member's Area in the “Increase my Points” section under “Paid Surveys”.
Why have I been eliminated from the survey?
You can be eliminated for 2 reasons:
- One reason this might happen is that many Panelists with a similar profile to yours (age, sex etc.) have already answered the survey, meaning that this particular profile is already adequately represented . You won’t be able to fully fill out this particular survey as we already have enough answers. Each time you are eliminated for this reason, you will be rewarded 30 Hiving points
- Another reason might be that you don’t fully correspond to the profile we are looking for. We do a pre-selection questionnaire at the beginning of each survey in order to be sure that you fit the required profile. If it turns out that you don't quite fit the profile our client needs you will unfortunatly be eliminated from the survey. There is a silver lining however! You will still receive 30 points even if your profile does not correspond to the survey.
What is the Pre-selection Survey and why do I need to do it?
At the beginning of each survey, you are asked to answer some pre-selection questions.
We do this to verify that you match our client’s criteria and that you will be able to give relevant answers to the survey.
If it turn out that you don't quite match what our client is looking for, you will unfortunatly be eliminated from the survey.
When starting a project with us, our clients describe the types of people they need to fill in their survey. This can include criteria as basic as age and sex or something as specific as your favourite brand of window cleaner. Once we have put the profile together, we send survey invitations to those Members corresponding to said profile, based on the information you have given us about yourself. However, the more specific the clients request is, the less likely we are to find the necessary information in your existing member profile. Therefore, we need to ask you these questions in the pre-selection survey in order to verify that your profile macthes.
We understand that it can be frustrating, but it’s hopefully a lot less frustrating than answering an entire survey about a product that you aren't interested in!
